Der Alchemist

Ok, I know it's probably "The Alchemist" for you guys, but I'm reading it this way and thus posting so. I will start out by saying that mom and I heard this on tape a while back, and I think I fell asleep at the end and she wasn't that into it, but this time around, Paulo Coehlo has got me a lot better. It's a lovely story with a very sympathetic character. I especially love the wide scope of God through all the countries, and the way the protagonist adapts them to his beliefs.

It's also a book about wanderlust and something of gold, so perhaps that was also motivation for me to get it...

Going to go hike up a mountain now! Follow your treasure!

PS; Anybody else miss our big book at the top of the blog, with the letters jumping around the pages? I do!

I just finished reading The Alchemist yesterday auf English. I might have to read it again as I know people LOVE it but like my schwester maybe I just wasn't that into it. It reminded me of The Celestine Prophecy or Jonathan Livingston Seagull or the Shack. I think I like my theology fiction a bit more subtle like Harry Potter. Or, maybe I should read it again.

BTW, I saw the girl with the dragon tattoo (netflix) and finished hornet's nest. I'm not sure how we have had any quality of life without Netflix. You were so right Isabug!!! Also, been secretly watching the Tudors! An anglophile dream come true. Very risqué but like a train wreck that you can't tear your eyes away from (except for the bloodletting...eewwwwww...I can't watch that).

Netflix IS the best. I am currently watching Pushing Daisies, which Peddie recommended about 3 years ago. I always catch on a little too late, but now I can watch them back to back!

G - I've debated going into the Tudors territory but I'm afraid that I will get sucked in, as I do with every show. Although, it might be my next choice! Did you know that you can watch Netflix on your TV with your Wii now? It's a great feature... especially since you have a large TV.

I've never read the Alchemist. I'll add that to my list.

I'll bring you the Alchemist when I come to New York.

We've been watching Netflix through the xbox 360 and I've got the disk for the Wii so we can move it to a different TV.

Watch the Tudors!!!!! Then we can talk about it...it has great costumes.

P.s. We want you to go see Despicable Me!!

How did you know that I've been plotting time to see Despicable Me?! It's all I can think about.. I want to see it so badly!

As I am on the other end of the world (with a muted computer), I can only say that that voices lineup looks great for this 'Despicable Me' film...

Sigh. It's lovely to be in a town full of prophets and apostles, but sometimes I miss normal society... (Netflix? Wha? You watch it on your gameboy?)

I like the Alchemist better auf Deutsch, I think, because it moves along well and is not too long, thus also giving me a sense of accomplishment. I get the feeling it would be much better in Portuguese but... you know.

My Brazilly friends actually told me that Coehlo is not a classicly trained writer, and just did it to do it, and that the printers left all his misspellings, etc in the book, which I think lends a neat angle to it all.

I STILL MISS BIG BOOK! AND LUCY!

PS: Still can't get into the Shack. I take heart that dad finished it, but also his advice that I need to be in the mood to read that kind of book.

Oh, and Auntie G... for serious? You just finished it yesterday, coincedentally???

Also, does the Tudors have that cute Bend it Like Beckham coach, or am I thinking of a different facebook ad?

I really did finish it yesterday. We are on vacation at the lake this week. Now I'm reading Daughter of Fortune which I'm hoping to finish by Sunday so I can send it back to your house with Will who's coming to sullivan's island on Sunday with Katie and Sara.

I know lots of people loved The Shack but it didn't do much for me.

Now that you say it, I think Henry VIII is the guy from Bend it like Beckham. Wow! I thought he seemed familiar.

Isabug, when we left the movie we said YOU had to see it. It's soooooo funny. I wish we had seen it in 3D but we were at the Lafollette theater where we are lucky to have seats.

I am anxious to watch the Tudors! Don't know if I can get Dad and John to go along with it though. We all just finished the last Dexter, which left me feeling jerked around...

I really need to catch up on Dexter (still only finished season 2) but I feel like that might be a little weird to watch in Oberammergau... no?

I might rewatch PUSHING DAISIES though!!!! Best show with included musicals songs sung by musicals stars EVER!

faceing... hmmm... just can't work with that captcha.

Do you all watch 30 Rock? Marc and I started last night (Netflix or course) and watched a couple of episodes starting from the pilot. I think we might be hooked.

We LOVE 30 Rock! The whole cast is hilarious. Claire is good at re-telling episodes too :)

But really... get with the program, Auntie G ;) We LOOOOOOOOVE 30 Rock. Let the random quotings begin!!!
